The West’s strategic suicide, legitimate questions

Rochdi Bouibri

Translated into English by M.Lahlal

Many analysts and observers have been confused about the strategic and political behavior of western regimes towards the raging war on Palestinian people in Gaza for more than a year now. As usual, the western states align with the Israelis, but in this war, they have gone far beyond their traditional attitude. They have deployed most of their military, political, media, and diplomatic resources for the Israelis in an unprecedented way though the enemy, this huge coalition of “democratic” western regimes combat is only a movement of resistance against occupation. This resistance is homegrown with limited capabilities and located in a tiny enclave deprived of any strategic support. But this tremendous effort made by the western states in their support of the Zionist entity is actually mind-boggling. The data collected by the air navigation Radarbox website shows that more than 6000 military flights have been tracked in this area in connection with western countries during this year of Israeli war on Gaza, with the establishment of a huge operational airlift to support Israel in striking the besieged strip with tons of bombs.

So, how is it conceivable that whenever under test, western politicians are keen on renouncing to their pronounced principles and values which they have professed and promoted to other societies as universal values? How are they usually ready to contradict the strategic interests of their own people, particularly when it is about serving the zionist entity and toeing the line of its policies no matter how barbaric they are? Are there really any common interests with this entity that was coercively and unjustly planted in the middle of Islamic community? Or the spirit of zonism has obsessed the minds and hearts of those politicians? Is this raging war on Gaza, going on for more than a year, a tactical war having as purpose gaining territorial or regional gains and establishing a new order with a new equation? Or is it a fateful and strategic war for all parties?

The response to these questions might give us the ability to form an idea about the reality of this war and its extent and, thus might explain the west’s unusually accelerating strategic suicide. In analysis, we could use several approaches, such as the political and historical, among others, which we cannot elaborate on in this short article. The historical method tells us there is an accurate standard that can define the type of wars: strategic or tactical. This standard is the amount and nature of resources deployed in the battle; if the material and moral resources deployed are huge, the war is extensive in time and place and thus the objectives are likely to be strategic.

With respect to the political approach, I would mention two compelling statements by a French political figure who has played a major role in the west’s unprecedented support for the Zionists: Manuel Valls, the ex-head of government. In an interview with Europe 1 channel, three weeks ago, he said the reason for the west’s support is that “Israel fights for us (we the west)”, so it is one battle against common enemies. In another interview with BMTV channel, he identified the enemies by saying: “Israel’s war is our war against the Islamists – and if Israel falls, we, too, will fall”. At least this figure is clear, and does not mince his words as the French say. His statements reflect exactly the assessment of the western politicians on the war on Gaza and Lebanon. It is indeed a strategic and consequential war for all the western camp, and this accounts for this exclusive mobilization in support of the Zionist occupation and justification for the barbarity and masking of horrors inflicted upon the innocent population.

There is a precious historical principle deduced from the long history of humanity; it says that when time comes to the decline and demise of states and civilizations, and when the end of their hegemony looms ahead, all their cosmetics vanish, masks fall and the true picture of their barbarity and cruelty manifests itself, resisting with utmost force the imminent collapse, and this exactly what makes their fall so compelling and costly.
