Questions on “Al-Aqsa Deluge” Operation

الأستاذ محمد لهلال

I- Was it the right time for Hamas to launch the attack on the Israeli settlers? Or was it a rash move without thinking about the consequences?

A- The general context:

– Hamas is a Palestinian movement for liberation. And it is legitimate for this movement to fight the Israeli occupation as it is stipulated in the international law.

– Most settlers on the periphery of the occupied land have had some sort of military training.

– On the periphery of Gaza enclave, there are several military barracks and a major military command, so the target was legitimate.

– The Israeli occupation of Palestine has lasted for more than seventy years, and all proposed solutions to end the occupation have failed, worse than that the occupation have been nibbling away at more territories even in times of the so-called peace process. And today the Israeli plan is to build their own Jewish state and the indigenous people of Palestine have to leave.

– Gaza enclave has been under siege for more than sixteen years; it is a big open prison, and human rights groups have condemned such siege as inhumane in several reports, and named Israel as an apartheid state, but it seems that Israel is above the law, particularly with the full support of the US which vetoes any resolution against the interests of Israel.

B- The immediate context of “al-Aqsa deluge” operation by Hamas:

– The continuous desecration of al-Aqsa mosque by fundamentalist settlers always protected by the Israeli police who never fail to use tear gas on Muslims in the mosque, beat and arrest them.

–  The Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons are continuously maltreated and deprived of basic needs. some of them have spent more than forty years, and many of them are detained with no legal prosecution, and also imprisoned, are children and women, some prisoners went on hunger strike and died. The situation becomes unbearable.

–  The West Bank has recently been subject to continuous Israeli military incursions and the killing of activists and ordinary civilians and also the destruction of infrastructure to render life more miserable in the West Bank. So, the plan was to single out the West Bank and annihilate any resistance.

–  Hamas operation was a pre-emptive strike as Hamas received some intelligence that the Israeli occupation was preparing a major assault on the resistance in Gaza.

The Israeli achievement in pushing Arab countries to normalize the relationships has had the aim of ending anything called Palestinian cause.

II-  What are the strategic implications of al-Aqsa Deluge operation?

The fall of the Israeli security theory and the so-called invincible army. And this will have dangerous implications on the Israeli community and economy.

–  The centrality of al-Qods and al-Aqsa mosque in the conscience of Arab and Islamic world.

– The stress on resistance as the only viable way for liberation.

– The Israeli project of subjugation and taming of Palestinians has failed.

– The assumption that Palestinians can be overlooked in any negotiation or discussion has failed.

– The failure of the so-called peace process and “Abraham accord” and the disruption of the campaign of normalization.

III-  How can we evaluate the reaction of western politicians and mainstream media?

–  By adopting the Israeli disinformation on the unfolding events, the western mainstream media have showed how biased and unprofessional they are in reporting the narratives without verification.

– The moral fall of western politicians as they rashly try to demonize and dehumanize the Palestinian movement of liberation, a reaction that reflects the inherent sentiment of supremacy and the neo-colonial endeavors to subordinate people of the south.

–  The events reveal the double standards western states embrace when it comes to Palestinians and all people who refuse subjugation and aspire for freedom.

  • – People who live in the west have long been misled by the Israeli propaganda, but now they begin to wake up to see how murderous and barbaric the Israeli occupation is with all those scenes of genocides, forced displacement, cutting off water, food, electricity, communication, gas and other vital material for survival to civilians.

– Today people in Europe and America take to streets to denounce the Israeli war crimes and call for an end to the tragedy.

As a conclusion, we can say that unless Palestinians have their rights to freedom and auto-determination, the Middle East will remain an area of instability and chaos, and the world peace will surely be affected. And morally speaking, the double standard adopted by the major power states will remain a historical disgrace that will debunk all their rhetoric about human rights and equality. We hope the most sensible in the world raise their voice and press governments to maintain the rule of the law and break silence on the flagrant human rights violations and hold accountable the oppressors.
